Leucate and Le Barcarès represent a historic core of European kitesurfing. The region is famous for the powerful Tramontane wind and hosts major events like the Lords of Tram big air competition. The area offers diverse conditions, from flat-water lagoons and shallow zones to open-sea waves and chop. The Season spans March to October, characterized by the strong NW Tramontane or the SE Marin sea breeze. Facilities are excellent, including schools and dedicated event infrastructure. Riders should be prepared for very strong, gusty offshore winds and shallow rocks in certain lagoon areas. While there are beginner zones, the spot is a mecca for intermediate to expert riders.
