Code of ethics
KitesurfingOfficial covers the kitesurfing scene for the people in it. These principles govern how we report. They sit alongside our Editorial standards and Corrections policy.
EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE
Editorial decisions are made on news value alone. Coverage is never for sale. A brand, school, event or person cannot buy a story, a rating, an award, or a favourable framing. Commercial relationships never influence what we report or how.
NO PAY-FOR-COVERAGE, CLEAR LABELLING
We do not publish paid content disguised as editorial. Any sponsored placement or paid partnership is clearly labelled as such, on the page and in its metadata, and kept visually distinct from editorial reporting.
CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
Where a potential conflict exists — for example when we report on a partner or on an athlete or brand we have a relationship with — we disclose it in the article. When a conflict is material, we recuse ourselves from covering it.
SOURCES AND UNNAMED SOURCES
We attribute facts to their sources and link to them where possible. We prefer named, on-the-record sources. We use unnamed sources only when the information is in the public interest, cannot be obtained another way, and the source has a legitimate reason for anonymity; such information is corroborated before publication. We do not fabricate or invent quotes, and quotes appear only when they are verbatim from a source.
DIVERSITY
Kitesurfing is a global, diverse sport, and our coverage aims to reflect that — across disciplines, regions, genders and levels, from world-tour riders to local scenes. We work to give fair representation rather than covering only the loudest channels.
VERIFICATION AND FACT-CHECKING
We work to a zero-invention principle: we publish only what we can support from the editor briefing, cited sources, verifiable web research or our own documented records, and anything we cannot verify is flagged rather than guessed. Every article is reviewed by a human before publication, and that person holds editorial responsibility for it.
