Kitesurfing AI for the questions riders ask
KSO AI answers from what a strong AI model knows about the sport. For the few things no model can know, it asks our tools.
Kite size
Give your weight, the wind in knots and your level. The size comes from our kite size calculator, so the chat and the calculator give the same number.
Spots and seasons
Where it blows in November, or whether Dakhla suits a beginner. It answers from its own knowledge of kite spots around the world and links the spots it names to our guides.
Live wind
Name a place and one of the next few days, and it pulls the hourly wind forecast for it. Without that data it gives no wind numbers, only what is typical for the season.
Schools, shops and trips
Looking for a school in Cumbuco or a shop near Tarifa? It searches our directory and links the listings it finds.
Board, wetsuit and gear
Board length and wetsuit thickness come from our calculators as well. Gear advice is brand-neutral and based on what fits you.
Technique and safety
Waterstarts, riding upwind, the first jump, your next trick. Tricks and guides it mentions link to our pages. If a question sounds like someone is in trouble, a fixed emergency card comes first.
How it works
Where the answers come from
KSO AI runs on a general AI model: OpenAI's GPT-5 mini, with Google Gemini as the backup when OpenAI is down. We didn't train a model of our own. Most of what you read is what that model already knows about kitesurfing and kiteboarding: technique, safety, gear, and spots around the world.
Some things a model can't know, so the assistant asks us. The live wind at a place comes from a weather service. Kite size, board size and wetsuit thickness come from the same calculators you find under Tools. Schools, shops and trips come from our directory. When one of these shaped an answer, it is listed under the reply.
Once the answer is written, we add the links. Any spot, trick, guide or tool it names gets a link to our page in your language, but only when the match is exact. If we are not sure which page a name means, it stays unlinked.
Limits
What KSO AI won't do
Invent live wind
No forecast data, no wind numbers. It tells you the forecast didn't come through and sticks to what is typical.
Push a brand
No brand pays for a mention. Gear advice follows your weight and how you ride.
Replace a lesson
It can explain the wind window or self-rescue. It can't stand next to you on the beach. Learn with a certified school.
Remember you unless you opt in
There is no rider profile by default. Signed in, you can switch one on. Then each question also gives the AI model your profile (weight, level, riding style, board, home town and airport, units and favourite spot types) and what you saved on KSO: kites and other gear, spots, kite size setups and landed tricks. Type "forget my profile" to delete the profile and stop this.

Fair question, since the model behind KSO AI comes from the same family as ChatGPT. Ask ChatGPT which kite to take and you get a reasonable guess. Ask KSO AI and the size comes from our calculator, tomorrow's wind comes from a live forecast, and the school it suggests is one that is really listed with us.

Kitesurfing AI: questions and answers
Is there an AI for kitesurfing?+
Yes. KSO AI is a free AI kitesurfing assistant from KitesurfingOfficial. You can ask it about kite size, spots, wind, technique, gear and trips, in English, German or Portuguese. Apart from it there are general chatbots like ChatGPT and a few apps that use AI for wind forecasts.
Is KSO AI free?+
Yes. As a guest you can ask 3 questions every 6 hours without an account. With a free KSO account you get 15 every 6 hours. The assistant shares one monthly AI budget with the rest of the site, and if that runs out it pauses until the next month.
Which AI model runs it?+
OpenAI's GPT-5 mini writes the answers. If OpenAI doesn't respond, Google Gemini takes over. We didn't train a model of our own. As the EU AI Act asks, the page tells you before your first question that you are talking to an AI, and an AI can be wrong.
Does it know my local spot?+
Often, yes. The model knows a lot of kite spots around the world, the famous ones and plenty of small ones, and it answers about them from its own knowledge. It can still get a local detail wrong, like a sandbank or a no-kite zone. When it names a spot we have a guide for, it links that page so you can check. For anything that matters on the day, ask a local school.
Can it check the wind for my spot?+
Yes, for the coming days. Name the place and it pulls the hourly wind forecast from a weather service, then tells you which hours look rideable. It never makes up wind numbers: if the forecast doesn't come through, it says so. A forecast is still a forecast, so look at the sky and the local reports before you rig.
What kite size do I need?+
That depends on your weight, the wind and your level. Tell KSO AI something like "80 kg, 18 knots, intermediate" and it runs our kite size calculator, the same one as on the calculator page, then explains the result. Riding style and board size move the number, so mention them if you know them.
Does it speak German and Portuguese?+
Yes. Ask in English, German or Portuguese and it answers in the same language. The links it adds go to our pages in that language too.
How is it different from ChatGPT?+
The model behind it is a close relative, so the general knowledge is similar. The difference is what sits around it. KSO AI pulls live hourly wind instead of guessing, takes kite size, board size and wetsuit thickness from our calculators, finds schools, shops and trips in our directory, links the spots, tricks and guides it mentions, and stays on kitesurfing. It's free, and you don't need a ChatGPT account.
Can an AI teach me to kitesurf?+
No. An AI coach can prepare you and help between sessions: how the wind window works or what to practise next. Learning to fly a kite safely takes an instructor next to you on the beach. KSO AI can help you find a school in our directory.
Does it remember what I tell it?+
Within one chat it follows the conversation, so "and tomorrow?" works. Beyond that it keeps no rider profile unless you turn one on, which you can do once you are signed in. From then on each question also gives the AI model your profile (weight, level, riding style, board, home town and airport, units and favourite spot types) and what you saved on KSO: kites and other gear, spots, kite size setups and landed tricks. Type "forget my profile": the profile is deleted and nothing more is sent. Your saved kites and spots stay in your account.
