Matos won the 2025 season opener at Ponta Preta, Cape Verde, with a 9.0-point final wave against Airton Cozzolino, then sealed the world title at Taiba by beating Cozzolino in Round 3 (7.37 and 8.13) and Gabriel Benetton in the title-deciding heat. He topped the 2025 GKA Kite-Surf ranking with 2740 points and had previously won the Dakhla stop in 2023.

Duotone features him as one of its wave powerhouses; the GKA confirmed in February 2026 that the reigning champion has elected to sit out the 2026 season.
