Competition Results, explained
Kitesurfing competition results as they land: GKA World Tour, Red Bull King of the Air, Big Air events and national titles. Podiums, scores and storylines.
The tours that decide the sport
Competitive kitesurfing runs on a handful of stages. The GKA Kite World Tour crowns world champions across disciplines like Big Air, freestyle and kite-surf (waves). Red Bull King of the Air stands apart as the sport's most famous single event, an invitational Big Air showdown in Cape Town's strongest winds. Around them sit national titles, qualifiers and independent Big Air events.
Because tour stops depend on wind, events run inside waiting periods: a window of days in which organizers call the competition on when conditions deliver. That is why kitesurfing results can land on any day of a window, and why a results desk has to watch continuously.
How kitesurfing competitions are judged
Riders compete in knockout heats in front of a judging panel. What scores depends on the discipline: Big Air rewards height, extremity and control of the biggest jumps; freestyle rewards technical, powered tricks; wave riding rewards flow and turns on the wave itself. Scores decide the heat, heats decide the podium, podiums decide the season ranking.
How we report results
Result stories here are grounded in official standings and the organizers' announcements, published as they land and linked to the riders' profiles and the event's page in our calendar. Podiums update athlete records, so a rider's page always reflects their latest results.
Every story in this section is researched, source-cited and editor-reviewed and approved before publishing — in English and German.
Frequently asked
What is the biggest kitesurfing competition?
Red Bull King of the Air is the sport's most famous single event, while the GKA Kite World Tour decides the official world titles across disciplines. Both are covered here the moment results land.
Why do kitesurfing events have waiting periods?
Because the sport needs wind. Organizers block a window of days and run the competition when conditions are strong and safe enough, which is why final dates often firm up on short notice.
Where can I follow events live?
Most tours stream heats on their official channels. Our event calendar lists dates, wind windows and links for every major competition, and the results land here right after.
