About this spot
Paje is the heart of Zanzibar’s kite scene, famous for its massive turquoise lagoon and consistent winds (the Kaskazi and Kuzi). At low tide, the lagoon offers perfectly flat, shallow water ideal for freestyle and beginners. As the tide comes in, the area turns into a deeper playground with some chop. The village is packed with kite schools, hotels, and restaurants, creating a lively beach atmosphere. Essential safety checks include monitoring the significant tidal range, being mindful of sea urchins, and navigating the lagoon during crowded peak seasons. It is a premier destination for progression and flat-water enthusiasts.
