Lago Calima

Lago Calima is a unique inland spot in Colombia, renowned for its reliable thermal winds. Situated in a mountain valley, the lake offers freshwater riding with consistent afternoon thermals, typically peaking from December to March and again from June to August. The spot is excellent for freeriding and foil boarding due to the lack of salt and the steady wind. It is also a popular location for progression and lessons. The surrounding area is scenic, with various schools and accommodations catering to the weekend crowds from nearby cities. Riders should be prepared for gusty conditions typical of mountain lakes and keep an eye out for boat traffic. The thermal wind can kick in and drop off quite suddenly, so local knowledge is helpful. It is one of the few places in the region where you can find regular rideable wind away from the coast.
