Vella Island

Vella Island is an internationally known kiteboarding destination accessible by boat from Kalpitiya. This tiny sandbar offers some of the cleanest offshore wind and flattest water in the world, exactly what freestyle and speed riders are after. The island is largely uninhabited, offering a "virgin lagoon" feel. Most kiters visit on multi-day camping trips or day excursions to take advantage of the incredibly consistent wind that funnels across the sandpit.
