Quality signals

What makes a great kite school.

KSO evaluates schools on signals that matter to riders — not on marketing spend or listing fees.

Honest expectations

Fresh information

The KSO perspective on school quality

The best kite schools are not necessarily the biggest or the best-marketed. They are the ones that are honest about what they offer, clear about safety and rescue protocols, responsive to rider feedback and consistent over time. A school that has been operating for ten years with a sparse, unverified profile tells us less than a newer school with honest reviews, clear lesson descriptions and an owner who engages with their community.

For school owners

How to improve your eligibility.

Everything below improves your KSO profile quality score and makes your school a stronger award candidate.

  1. 1

    Claim your profile

Visit /claim-profile and verify your ownership. This is the single most important step.

  2. 2

    Add photos

Hero image, logo, interior and exterior photos. Visual completeness matters for profile scoring.

  3. 3

    Fill in lesson types

Describe what you offer: group lessons, private, IKO courses, kids, women-only.

  4. 4

    Add certifications if held

IKO, VDWS, BKSA or other certifications — add them clearly to your profile.

  5. 5

    Add rescue and safety info

Describe your rescue setup honestly. Schools with clear safety info score higher.

  6. 6

    Link your nearest KSO spot

Connect your school to a real KSO kite destination. Adds context and trust.

  7. 7

For school owners

Why a KSO Award matters.

A KSO Award is an independent, transparent trust signal that reinforces your school's credibility with new riders. It's the kind of endorsement that can't be purchased — only earned. Award winners receive a KSO badge, prominent directory placement and a permanent award page citation.

For riders

How awards help you choose.

KSO Kite School Awards highlight schools with strong rider reviews, verified ownership and clear safety information. They are a useful starting signal — but always confirm local conditions, rescue setup and what's included before booking a lesson or course.
