Isla Blanca

Isla Blanca is a long sand spit just north of Cancun in Quintana Roo, with a large, shallow saltwater lagoon on its leeward side. Standing-depth water covers a huge area, which makes it a natural classroom for beginners, and the sections near the mangroves go butter-flat for freestyle. The wind season runs from November to May, driven largely by 'Nortes' (cold fronts) and trade winds. The lagoon is the main draw, but the open sea adds chop and swell when you want it. Facilities are basic — kite schools and beach clubs — with Cancun's infrastructure a short drive away. Watch the shallow floor and the mangroves, expect more local traffic on weekends, and take the unpaved access road slowly after heavy rain.
