Isla Blanca is a hidden gem located just north of Cancun in Quintana Roo. This large, shallow saltwater lagoon offers world-class flatwater conditions on the Caribbean coast. It is an exceptional spot for beginners due to the vast standing-depth areas, as well as freestyle riders looking for butter-flat sections near the mangroves. The wind season runs from November to May, driven largely by 'Nortes' (cold fronts) and trade winds. While the lagoon is the main draw, riders can also access the open sea for chop and swell. Facilities are somewhat basic but include kite schools and beach clubs, with the convenience of Cancun’s infrastructure just a short drive away. Riders should be aware of the lagoon's shallow floor and the surrounding mangroves. Weekends can see more local traffic, and the unpaved road access can be tricky after heavy rain. It is a must-visit for anyone seeking flatwater progression in the Mexican Caribbean.
