Brazil is a pilgrimage for kitesurfers. The northeast coast — Ceará, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte — runs on warm, relentless side-shore trade wind for months, over flatwater lagoons and along a coast built for downwinders that can stretch a hundred kilometres. It is where a huge share of the sport's strapless and freestyle progression happens.
Cumbuco is the classic base near Fortaleza, with its lagoon (Cauípe) for freestyle and endless downwind coast. Preá and Jericoacoara are the postcard spots; Ilha do Guajiru, Barra Grande, Icaraí de Amontada and the lagoons of the interior draw riders chasing glassy flatwater. The whole region shares the same recipe: warm water, steady cross-shore wind and a downwind coastline that makes every day an adventure.
