Skill level match
Check whether the trip explicitly targets your level. Beginner camps and expert clinics run very differently — the best trips are honest about who they're designed for.
What's included
Compare like for like: meals, accommodation, coaching, gear and transfers all affect the real price. A low headline price without gear can cost more than an all-inclusive camp.
Group size
Smaller groups mean more water time and more personalised coaching. For clinics, aim for 4 or fewer students per coach.
Wind reliability
Ask about average wind days and the cancellation/rescheduling policy for no-wind days. Reputable organizers are transparent about seasonal variability.
Organizer experience
How many seasons has the organizer been running this exact trip? Local knowledge, rescue protocols and guide experience are everything when you're in a remote location.
Safety on safari & downwinds
For boat-based safaris and downwind trips, verify there is a motorized support vessel, first-aid trained crew, and clear emergency evacuation procedures.
