KSO Editorial Scores

The same ten characteristics, scored 1–10 for every kite in the index — comparable across all brands. How we rate →

Jump / Boost5/10

Harlem does not list big air for the Flow, and a low-aspect wave outline is not built to send.

Hangtime5/10

A wave kite is tuned to come down where you want it, not to hold you up; that is a feature here.

Turning speed9/10

Three struts on a low-aspect outline in sizes capped at 10 is the fastest-turning combination Harlem builds.

Bar pressure5/10

Enough feedback to know where the kite is without looking, which is the whole point in a wave.

Relaunch9/10

A small three-strut kite with a low-aspect outline is about as easy to get back up as kites get.

Wave drift9/10

This is the score the Flow exists for: it sits in the window on a slack line while you ride the face.

Unhooked pop4/10

Not the brief. Harlem lists wave and freeride only, and the outline confirms it.

Low-end power6/10

Capped at 10, so light days are covered by a different kite in the quiver rather than by this one.

Upwind drive6/10

A low-aspect wave kite trades pointing for manoeuvrability, and the Flow sits on the manoeuvrable side.

Ease of use8/10

The most forgiving kite Harlem sells, and the cheapest — a combination that is not a coincidence.

About this kite

The Flow is Harlem's wave kite: a three-strut design in six sizes from 5 to 10 square metres, positioned for wave and freeride and priced at the accessible end of the brand's range.

Harlem describes the outline as low-aspect but publishes no number for it, which is the shape you want when the kite has to sit still at the edge of the window while you ride a face and forget about it. The construction is the same vocabulary as the rest of the catalogue — a PRoWELD leading edge with laminated Mylar struts — and, as on the Thrive V2 and the Peak, Harlem names the process without naming the fabric, so this page does not put a material in its mouth.

Two things in the per-size table say more about the brief than any adjective. First, the line length never changes: 22 metres on every size, where every other Harlem kite steps up to 24 on its bigger sizes. A short line turns faster and reports back sooner, and this kite never gets big enough to need the leverage. Second, the range is capped at 10, because a wave kite that has to be depowered to be ridden is the wrong tool, and down-the-line riding is done on a small kite that turns when asked. Weight runs 1.86 kilograms in the 5 to 2.76 in the 10.

Harlem's wind chart starts the 5 at 22, the lowest bottom figure of any small kite in the range. As everywhere here it carries no unit, so the numbers are reproduced as printed.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Harlem Flow a wave kite?+

Yes. Harlem positions it for wave and freeride, describes a low-aspect outline and caps the range at 10 square metres.

What sizes does the Harlem Flow come in?+

Six, from 5 to 10 square metres. There is nothing larger, which is deliberate for a wave kite.

What aspect ratio does the Flow have?+

Harlem calls it low-aspect but publishes no figure, so this page carries the description and not a number.
