About this organization
The GKA Kite World Tour is run by the Global Kitesports Association and decides the official world champions of kiteboarding each season. Its events are sanctioned by World Sailing, the governing body for the sport of sailing. Four divisions carry their own title. Big Air is judged on kite loops and hangtime. Kite-Surf is ridden in waves and mostly strapless. Freestyle is unhooked and wakestyle-influenced. Hydrofoil Big Air puts the same jumping brief on a foil. Riders collect points across stops on four continents, Cape Verde, Dakhla, Sylt, Mykonos and Brazil among them, and the season adds up to a world ranking, so no single event settles a title on its own. The GKA also runs the Youth Kite World Championships, the development side of the same calendar. Heat schedules, waiting periods and results are published by the tour.
