KSO Editorial Scores
The same ten characteristics, scored 1–10 for every kite in the index — comparable across all brands. How we rate →
A big light-wind kite with a stiff Dacron frame will send in wind that grounds a normal quiver — differently, but it will.
Square metres and a 32 g/m² canopy are what keep a light-wind kite floating at the top; the LiteX has both.
Fifteen and seventeen square metres turn at the speed fifteen and seventeen square metres turn at.
Light, as a light-wind kite has to be — there is no spare power to spend on holding the bar down.
A 17 in 8 knots is the hardest relaunch in kiteboarding; the light cloth helps and does not solve it.
The low cloth weight drifts well for the size, which is why light-wind kites end up on wave days too.
Nobody unhooks a 17. Harlem lists freeride and light wind, and that is the honest range.
The entire reason this kite exists: Harlem publishes a range starting at 6 for the 17.
Light-wind kites live or die upwind, and a stiff Dacron leading edge under a light canopy is the right way round.
Two sizes, both large. Easy in the air, demanding on the ground, and not a first kite.

About this kite
The Thrive LiteX is Harlem's light-wind kite and it exists in two sizes only, 15 and 17 square metres. It is the Thrive outline built out of lighter cloth rather than a different kite: a PROWELD Dacron leading edge with laminated Mylar struts, under a canopy whose centre panel is a 32 gram-per-square-metre Lite_X material with FlyLite in the wingtips.
That is worth spelling out because the name misleads, and the fabricated version of this sentence is what put the whole Harlem range under review. Lite_X is the CANOPY, not the frame. There is no Aluula anywhere in Harlem's catalogue. And this is one of only two pages in the range where Harlem names a frame fabric outright — "PROWELD Dacron leading edge" — which is why the spec row above is filled here and empty on the Thrive V2, the Peak and the Flow.
The numbers explain what the lighter cloth actually buys, and it is not what most people expect. Against the standard Thrive in the same sizes, the LiteX saves 130 grams in the 15 and 30 grams in the 17 — 3.20 and 3.50 kilograms against 3.33 and 3.53. The weight is nearly the same. What moves is the bottom of the range: Harlem's chart starts the LiteX 15 at 8 where the Thrive 15 starts at 11, and the 17 at 6 against 9. Roughly three units of wind, which on a light day is the whole session.
Both sizes ship on 24-metre lines with what Harlem calls an optimised bridle. As everywhere in this range the wind chart carries no unit, so the figures above are the brand's own numbers and nothing has been converted.
Frequently asked questions
Is LiteX a frame material?+
No. Lite_X is Harlem's canopy cloth — a 32 gram-per-square-metre centre panel with FlyLite wingtips. The frame is a PROWELD Dacron leading edge with laminated Mylar struts.
What sizes does the Thrive LiteX come in?+
Two: 15 and 17 square metres. Harlem publishes wind ranges of 8 to 18 for the 15 and 6 to 16 for the 17, without stating a unit.
How is the Thrive LiteX different from the Thrive?+
Same outline, lighter cloth, and only in the two big sizes. The LiteX is the light-wind build; the Thrive is the all-rounder from 5 to 17.
