KSO Editorial Scores

The same ten characteristics, scored 1–10 for every kite in the index — comparable across all brands. How we rate →

Jump / Boost8/10

Three struts and a Hadlow-influenced outline give it real lift, without the dedicated pull of the five-strut Peak beside it in the range.

Hangtime8/10

The light per-size weights Harlem publishes — 2.42 kg in the 8 — are what keep it in the air at the top of the arc.

Turning speed7/10

A three-strut all-rounder turns quicker than a big-air five-strut and slower than Harlem's own wave kite, the Flow.

Bar pressure5/10

Moderate and centred, in the range Harlem tunes its all-round kites to rather than the light end it gives the Peak.

Relaunch8/10

Three struts on a medium outline is the easiest relaunch geometry there is, and the sizes below 8 come up off the water quickly.

Wave drift7/10

Harlem lists wave as one of the three disciplines, and the light frame drifts well enough down the line to make that honest.

Unhooked pop6/10

Capable unhooked, but this is not the freestyle kite in the range — that is the five-strut Hadlow Pro.

Low-end power7/10

Nine sizes down to 5 and up to 13 mean the range is covered by choosing the right size, not by stretching one.

Upwind drive8/10

A medium-aspect all-rounder on 22 to 24 metre lines points well; this is the part of the brief Harlem has always delivered.

Ease of use7/10

Forgiving enough for a confident intermediate, with enough top end that the kite does not become the limit.

About this kite

Harlem started in 2016 as a kite-repair shop in Haarlem. The Thrive grew out of the Dutch big-air scene and is the brand's core statement: a three-strut platform tuned for powerful lift, long hangtime and confident loop recovery, drawn by Ralf Groesel with Aaron Hadlow. Harlem positions the V2 across freeride, big air and wave at once, and the size run backs that up — nine sizes from 5 to 13 square metres.

The airframe is Harlem's PRoWELD leading-edge construction with laminated Mylar struts under a Twincross FlyLite canopy. PRoWELD is a welding technique rather than a fabric, and Harlem never names the frame cloth for this kite, so neither does this page — the spec row above stays empty on purpose. The one place in the range where the brand does write the word is the Thrive LiteX, whose leading edge it calls PROWELD Dacron.

What Harlem does publish, size by size, is weight and line length, and that is the table above. The V2 runs 1.88 kilograms in the 5 up to 3.20 in the 13, on 22-metre lines through the 10 and 24 metres from the 11 upward — a longer line on the bigger kites, which is how you keep a large kite's turn from going lazy. Worth knowing beside the original Thrive, which Harlem still sells: the V2 is heavier at every shared size, 1.88 against 1.65 in the 5.

Harlem also prints a wind chart, calculated for an intermediate rider weighing 75 kilograms, running roughly 24 to 45 on the 5 down to 12 to 20 on the 13. It carries no unit — not on this page and not anywhere else in the range — so we reproduce the numbers and leave the unit alone rather than guess at one.

Frequently asked questions

How many struts does the Harlem Thrive V2 have?+

Three. Harlem calls it a high-performance all-round three-strut kite and pairs a PRoWELD leading edge with laminated Mylar struts.

What sizes does the Thrive V2 come in?+

Nine, from 5 to 13 square metres. Harlem ships 22-metre lines up to the 10 and 24-metre lines on the 11, 12 and 13.

Who designed the Thrive V2?+

Ralf Groesel and Aaron Hadlow, according to Harlem's own product page.

What frame material does the Thrive V2 use?+

Harlem does not say. It names the leading-edge construction PRoWELD and the struts laminated Mylar, but states no frame fabric — so we leave that field empty rather than guess at it.
